Terms of Service

The terms that govern your use of Monet.

1. Agreement

By downloading, installing, or using Monet, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use Monet. You must be at least 18 years old to use Monet. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and J.R. Wells regarding the use of Monet.

2. Product Description

Monet is a macOS desktop application for remote terminal multiplexing. It consists of a background daemon, an Electron desktop client, and an iOS companion app. Monet enables you to manage terminal sessions — including AI coding agents like Claude Code — from multiple devices. All processing happens locally on your Mac.

3. License Grant

Subject to these Terms and payment of the applicable fees, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Monet for personal or professional purposes. Your license is per-user, not per-device — you may install Monet on multiple Macs that you own and control. Each license is valid for a one-year term from the date of purchase. Renewal is manual only; we will never auto-renew or charge you without explicit action on your part.

4. Pricing & Payment

Monet is sold as an annual license. During the beta period (ending March 31, 2026), the price is $249/year. After beta, the regular price is $499/year. All prices are in USD and exclusive of applicable taxes. Payment is processed through Stripe as a one-time annual charge. There is no subscription and no recurring billing.

5. Refund Policy

We offer a 7-day money-back guarantee from the date of purchase. If Monet isn’t right for you, email hello@monet.dev within 7 days for a full refund. Refunds are processed within 5-10 business days. After the 7-day period, all sales are final.

6. License Restrictions

You agree not to:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of Monet
  • Redistribute, sublicense, resell, or share Monet or your license key with third parties
  • Circumvent or attempt to circumvent license validation mechanisms
  • Use Monet to develop a competing product or service

7. Bring Your Own Keys (BYOK) Disclaimer

Monet supports integration with third-party AI and voice services through your own API keys. You are solely responsible for:

  • Obtaining valid API keys from each provider (Anthropic, Deepgram, ElevenLabs, etc.)
  • Complying with the terms of service of each provider
  • All costs incurred through your API usage
  • The security of your API keys — Monet stores them locally on your Mac but does not otherwise manage or protect them beyond local file permissions

Monet is not responsible for changes to third-party APIs, pricing, availability, or terms of service.

8. AI & Terminal Disclaimer

Monet is a tool for managing terminal sessions and AI coding agents. It does not generate AI output itself — that comes from the AI services you connect via your own API keys. You acknowledge and agree that:

  • You are solely responsible for reviewing all AI-generated output before acting on it
  • Terminal sessions have full access to your system with the permissions of the user running the daemon
  • Monet is not responsible for any damage, data loss, or other consequences resulting from executing AI-generated commands or any other commands in a terminal session
  • AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate — it should always be verified before use

9. Network & Security

Monet provides the tools for remote terminal access. You are responsible for:

  • Securing your network connection (we recommend Tailscale, but the choice is yours)
  • Protecting your authentication token — anyone with your token and network access can control your terminal sessions
  • Controlling physical and remote access to your devices

10. Intellectual Property

Monet and all associated intellectual property are owned by J.R. Wells. This includes the software, design, documentation, and brand assets. Open source components used in Monet are licensed under their respective licenses. Your content — including your code, terminal sessions, and AI conversations — remains entirely yours. We claim no rights to anything you create, store, or process using Monet.

11. Warranty Disclaimer

Monet is provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that Monet will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, J.R. Wells’s total liability for all claims arising from or related to Monet is limited to the total amount you paid for Monet in the 12 months preceding the claim.

In no event will we be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to damages arising from:

  • Third-party services (AI providers, Tailscale, Stripe)
  • AI-generated output or commands
  • Unauthorized access resulting from misconfiguration or token exposure
  • Data loss or corruption
  • Loss of profits, revenue, or business opportunities

13. Dispute Resolution

We do not require mandatory arbitration. These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of Monet shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in California. Both parties consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.

14. Termination

By you: You may terminate your use of Monet at any time by ceasing to use the software and deleting the ~/.monet/ directory from your Mac.

By us: We may terminate your license if you materially breach these Terms, with 30 days written notice and an opportunity to cure the breach. Upon termination, your license to use Monet ends immediately.

The following sections survive termination: Intellectual Property, Warranty Disclaimer, Limitation of Liability, Dispute Resolution, and General Provisions.

15. Modifications to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes, we will provide at least 30 days notice via email to the address associated with your license. Your continued use of Monet after the notice period constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree with the changes, you may stop using Monet before the changes take effect.

16. General Provisions

  • Severability: If any provision of these Terms is held to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
  • Waiver: Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that provision.
  • Assignment: You may not assign or transfer your rights under these Terms without our written consent. We may assign our rights and obligations without restriction.
  • Force Majeure: We are not liable for delays or failures in performance resulting from causes beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, acts of government, or internet outages.
  • Notices: Notices to us should be sent to hello@monet.dev. Notices to you will be sent to the email address associated with your license.
  • Export Controls: You agree to comply with all applicable export control laws and regulations. You may not use or export Monet in violation of US export laws.
